Mathis, Texas (January 29, 2019) – Three children were killed and one other person was injured Saturday morning in a train accident southeast of Mathis in San Patricio County, according to a local news source.
The tragic wreck took place at about 10:35 a.m. Saturday, January 26 on County Road 1136.
Authorities said a 2008 Mitsubishi passenger car was traveling northbound on County Road 1136 when its driver failed to stop at the railroad crossing and the vehicle was hit by a Union Pacific train on the right passenger side.
As a result of the collision, the Mitsubishi veered off the tracks and slammed into a cable barrier.

Aubree Galla, 5, also of Beeville, was airlifted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries Sunday evening.
The male driver of the car was taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi with critical injuries.
Authorities said none of the children were restrained in the vehicle and the 5-year-old girl was not in a child car seat.
Authorities are investigating the crash.
