Austin Stahl Killed in Hitchcock Plane Crash near South Railroad and Mike Avenue

Hitchcock, Texas (December 11, 2020) – A pilot was killed in a plane crash Tuesday afternoon in a residential area of Galveston County, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 2:00 p.m., December 8, near the intersection of South Railroad and Mike Avenue.

FAA said maintenance work was being performed on an unoccupied single-engine Van’s RV-6 at Scholes International Airport in Galveston when it began moving forward and the pilot jumped in the plane.

The aircraft rolled over chocks and became airborne. It crashed in a residential area near railroad tracks.

The pilot, Austin Stahl, 50, was killed in the crash.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
