Aylene Heaney Killed and Jeff Conyers Injured After Stolen 18-Wheeler Crashes into Harris County Home on Lincoln Drive

Laredo, Texas (October 27, 2021) – A woman was killed, and a man was seriously injured early Tuesday morning after a stolen truck crashed into a home in northwest Harris County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 12:30 a.m., on October 25, on Lincoln Drive near McKinley Street.

Authorities said they received a call for an auto-theft at about 10:40 p.m., after a tractor-trailer was stolen from a local trucking company in the 14700 of Sommermeyer Street. The truck was equipped with a GPS tracking system, and the officers were able to track it to the 11100 block of Capital Park Drive.

The suspect, Erick Black, 39, was still inside the truck, and he led the officers on a brief chase on Lincoln Drive. He then jumped out of the moving truck near McKinley Street. The truck continued on through a metal gate before crashing into a truck in the driveway and then into a home.

There were four people in the home at the time of the accident. Two of them, Jeff Conyers and Aylene “Nicole” Heane, were sleeping in a bedroom at the time of the crash, and both were trapped underneath the truck. They were both extricated, and Heaney was pronounced dead at the scene. Conyers was taken to a local hospital with major injuries.

Black was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He is facing murder and reckless aggravated assault charges, both of which are felonies that together carry a minimum of 25 years in prison to a maximum of life.

An investigation is underway.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statutes which were violated.
