Bicyclist Struck, Seriously Injured by Vehicle at Erskine Street and North Loop 289 in Lubbock

55-Year-Old Bicyclist Hospitalized after Lubbock Crash at Erskine Street and North Loop 289
Lubbock, Texas (January 28, 2019) – A bicyclist was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle Saturday night at an intersection in Lubbock, police said.
The accident was reported at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, January 26 at the intersection of Erskine Street and North Loop 289.
According to the police, a SUV was heading eastbound on Erskine Street when its driver attempted to swerve to avoid the bicyclist who was traveling southbound on the crosswalk.  But the driver was unsuccessful and hit the bike.
The bicyclist, a 55-year-old man, sustained major injuries and was transported to University Medical Center.
Authorities said the bicyclist had a red light and failed to yield the right of way to traffic on Erskine Street.
The crash remains under investigation.
