Bismark Asare Killed in West Harris County Car Crash on Katy Freeway near Greenhouse Road

Harris County, Texas (August 3, 2020) – An innocent rideshare driver was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a Harris County deputy during a chase in west Harris County, according to deputies.

The crash happened around 1:40 a.m., August 2, in the westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway, near Greenhouse Road.

Deputies said a deputy saw a man and a woman arguing in a parking lot near Fry Road. Both the 17-year-old male and the woman then got into a grey Chrysler 300 and drove away, and the deputy followed them.

The Chrysler stopped on the road and then began speeding, and the deputy activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver didn’t stop.

The Chrysler’s driver then made a U-turn and came back traveling eastbound on the feeder road of the freeway. He made an attempt to get back on the freeway, and there was another vehicle in front of him. The suspect drove around the third vehicle, causing the deputy to rear-end the rideshare vehicle.

The suspect ran across the main lanes of the freeway and was found hiding behind Texas Children’s Hospital. The woman might have gotten into a black and white Jeep and drove off. The authorities are looking for her.

The rideshare driver, 40-year-old Bismark Asare, was taken to a Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The deputy and the 17-year-old were also taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.

Investigators said alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The Harris County, Vehicular Crimes Division, is investigating the crash. Anyone with information about the female suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact local authorities.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bismark Asare.
