Caleb Swafford ID’d as Man Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on Aldine Bender Road near Interstate 69

Houston, Texas (January 7, 2023) – The man who was struck and killed by a Houston police patrol car while responding to a call early Thursday morning in northeast Houston has been identified, according to police.

Caleb Swafford died in the crash that happened around midnight on Thursday, January 5, in the 5500 block of Aldine Bender Road, west of Interstate 69.

Police said the patrol car was responding to a call without its flashing lights and sirens on when it hit the man who was in the middle lane of traffic.

The officer got out of the vehicle and tried to save Swafford but was unsuccessful.

Authorities do not believe speed was a factor.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
