Callie Birdsong Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 64 in Smith County

Callie Birdsong Seriously Injured in Smith Car Crash on Highway 64 near County County Road 294

Smith, Texas (September 6, 2019) – A driver was seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening in Smith County, according to the authorities.

The crash happened at about 5:20 p.m. September 4, on Highway 64, near County Road 294.

Authorities said Ryan Curbo was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion erratically when he crossed into oncoming traffic in a no-passing zone and crashed head-on into a 2012 Kia driven by Lonesha McCoy. He then crashed into a 2015 Jeep driven by Callie Birdsong, 25.

Birdsong was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Curbo stripped off all of his clothes and fled the scene after the crash. He was later located in a wooded area. He was charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle causing severe bodily injury, one charge of fleeing a police officer, and one charge of accident involving serious bodily injury. He was booked into Smith County Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.
