Cameron Swearingen ID’d as Motorcyclist Killed in Collingsworth Crash on State Highway 203

Collingsworth, Texas (August 15, 2019) – Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a traffic accident in Collingsworth as Cameron Swearingen, 46, of Wellington.

The deadly crash happened at about 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13 on State Highway 203, about two miles east of Wellington.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Swearingen was driving a 2000 Honda VT100 motorcycle westbound on Highway 203 while Jackie Barnett, 77, of Wellington, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound.

Barnett slowed to prepare to make a left turn into a private drive, failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and turned in front of Swearingen. In an attempt to avoid the truck, Swearingen laid his motorcycle over onto the roadway and began to slide.

As Barnett was turning across the eastbound lane, he hit the motorcycle and Swearingen.

Swearingen was transported to Collingsworth General Hospital in Wellington where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Barnett was injured in the collision.

The Texas Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
