Carol Neatherlin Killed in Lampasas County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 281

Lampasas County, Texas (October 5, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured Friday night in a head-on collision in Lampasas County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just before 10:30 p.m., October 1, on US 281, south of Evant.

DPS said a Ford sedan was traveling northbound on the highway while a Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound.

The Ford crossed the double yellow center stripe into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the Dodge.

The Dodge driver, a 71-year-old San Antonio man, attempted to take evasive action to swerve to avoid the collision.

A passenger in the Dodge, Carol Ann Neatherlin, 62, of San Antonio, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dodge driver was taken to a Lampasas hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ford driver showed signs of intoxication and has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The crash remains under investigation.
