Casey Ketchersid Injured in Fatal Martin County Three-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 349

Martin County, Texas (January 26, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Martin County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:57 p.m., January 22, on State Highway 349, eight miles north of Midland.

DPS said a Hyundai and an 18-wheeler were traveling northbound on the highway while a Buick Lacrosse was traveling southbound.

The Buick driver failed to control their speed and nearly hit a vehicle that was turning left in front of it. It then entered the northbound lane and crashed into the Hyundai. The impact pushed the Hyundai into the 18-wheeler.

The Hyundai driver, Toni Place, 56, of Midland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Buick driver, Casey Ketchersid, 31, of Lamesa, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 18-wheeler driver was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
