Child Killed, Driver Critically Injured after Train Hits Car on FM 1495 in Freeport

12-Year-Old Boy Killed, Oyster Creek Man Critically Injured in Freeport Train Accident on FM 1495

Freeport, Texas (December 29, 2022) – A 12-year-old boy was killed and a driver was critically injured when their vehicle was struck by a train on Sunday evening in Freeport, according to authorities.

The deadly crash happened at around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, December 25, in the 1200 block of FM 1495.

Authorities said a 27-year-old Oyster Creek man was driving a 2013 silver Ford Edge northbound on FM 1495 and was attempting to beat an oncoming train at the crossing.

The Ford reportedly sped up in an attempt to drive around the train but was struck by the train.

The 12-year-old passenger was partially ejected through the windshield while the driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by firefighters.

The Ford driver and the 12-year-old boy were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where the boy was declared dead. The driver was listed in critical condition.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
