3-Year-Old Child Killed in Waco Crash on S 17th Street

Waco, Texas (May 19, 2023) – A 3-year-old child was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Waco on Thursday evening, according to the Waco Police Department.

The deadly crash happened at around 4:19 p.m. Thursday, May 18 in the 1700 block of S. 17th Street.

Waco police said a 4-door Chevrolet Lumina was heading eastbound on S. 17th Street when the driver failed to stop for the traffic light and struck two vehicles that were traveling northbound.

Following the impact of the collision, an unsecured 3-year-old was ejected from the Lumina, which then landed on top of her.

Reportedly, bystanders lifted the vehicle off the child and administered first aid.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital, where they died of their injuries. Authorities said next of kin has been notified, but the child’s name will not be released due to their age.

The Waco Police Department is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
