4-Year-Old Girl Killed, 7 Others Injured in Matagorda County Car Accident on FM 457 near Bay City
Matagorda County, Texas (January 25, 2019) – A child was killed and seven other people were injured Thursday evening in a traffic accident involving four vehicles in Matagorda County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly wreck happened at around 6:40 p.m. Thursday, January 24 on FM 457, just southeast of Bay City.
The DPS said a 1997 Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound on FM 457 when for an unknown reason it veered into the northbound lane and hit a 2016 GMC pickup and a Dodge Avenger.
The Dodge then crashed into a 2013 Chevrolet pickup.
The driver of the Chevrolet, James Watkins, 37, of Brazoria, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston in an unknown condition.
The Dodge driver and her five passengers were also transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with unspecified injuries.
A 4-year-old female passenger of the Dodge, from Bay City, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending identification and notification of her relatives.
No other injuries were reported. An investigation into the crash is underway.
