Chung Ko Killed in Houston Bicycle Accident on Bellaire Boulevard at Osage Street

Houston, Texas (February 9, 2022) – A man was killed Monday morning in a bicycle accident in southwest Houston, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 10:15 a.m., February 7, on Bellaire Boulevard at Osage Street.

Police said Chung Ko, 73, of Sharpstown, was pedaling northbound across Bellaire Boulevard at Osage Street, “possibly in the crosswalk,” when a brown Toyota Tundra pickup truck made a right turn onto Bellaire Boulevard and hit him.

Ko was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The pickup truck driver, a 51-year-old man, remained at the scene and was found not to be intoxicated. He could face a felony charge under a new crosswalk law, the Lisa Torry Smith Act, believed to have never been applied before.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
