Conner Mitchell Killed, Andy Hubbard Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on FM 1416 in Newton County

17-Year-Old Conner Mitchell Killed, Andy Hubbard Seriously Injured in Newton County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 1416 near Hwy 190

Newton County, Texas (February 10, 2020) – One person was killed, and another was seriously Friday afternoon in a head-on collision in Newton County, according to the DPS.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., February 7, on FM 1416 south of Highway 190, near mile marker 400.

DPS said a 2016 Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on FM 1416 while a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound.

For an unknown reason, the Chevrolet crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into the Ford.

The Chevrolet driver, 17-year-old Conner Mitchell of Bon Weir, was airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he later died.

The Ford driver, 63- year-old Andy Hubbard of Bon Weir, was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
