Dallam County, Texas (April 22, 2022) – Authorities have identified the man who died Friday morning following a traffic collision in Dallam County as Damon Whaley, 39, of Dalhart.

The deadly crash happened at around 8:15 a.m. on U.S 87, northwest of Dalhart.

According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Billie Morgan, 58, of Dalhart, was driving a 2001 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer northwest on U.S 87 in the right lane while Whaley was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma northwest on US 87 behind the truck tractor.

Morgan signaled and slowed down to make a right turn into a private driveway.

For unknown reasons, Whaley did not see the truck tractor slowing down to make the turn and slammed into the back of the semi-trailer.

Whaley died at the scene.

Morgan was not injured.

DPS is investigating the incident.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
