Daren Putnam Injured in Trinity County Bicycle Accident on FM 356

Trinity County, Texas (December 5, 2019) – A bicyclist was injured in an alleged hit-and-run accident Tuesday night in Trinity County, according to a local news source.

The accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on December 3, on FM 356.

According to a preliminary report, Bobby Ray Shepherd, 31, of Trinity, was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey westbound on the highway when he drove across the eastbound lane and into the ditch, where he struck Daren Putnam, 30, of Gilmer, who was riding a bicycle.

Putnam was taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Shepherd fled the scene. He was later located and taken into Trinity County jail after a brief attempt to evade law enforcement. He is being held on a third-degree felony intoxication assault resulting in serious bodily injury charge, a third-degree felony failure to stop and render aid charge, a third-degree felony evading arrest charge, and a Class A misdemeanor resisting arrest charge.

An investigation is underway.
