Dean Mezger, Julius Black Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 59 in Lufkin

Dean Mezger and Julius Black Injured in Lufkin Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 59 at FM 2108

Lufkin, Texas (June 16, 2019) – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Lufkin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened at about 4:00 p.m. June 13, in the area of U.S. Highway 59 and FM 2108.

DPS said Dean Mezger, 49, of Lufkin, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck when he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 59 from FM 2108 and drove into the path of a northbound 2011 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer, driven by Julius Black, 47, of Kentucky, resulting in a collision.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to flip upside down in the southbound lane while the damaged Peterbilt’s bumper came to rest on the side of the road.

Mezger was airlifted to a Tyler hospital while Black was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial in Lufkin.

The crash remains under investigation.
