Debra “Debbie” Townsend and Tana Hajovsky Killed in La Grange Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 77 near Rabbs Prairie Road

La Grange, Texas (January 23, 2022) – A mother and her daughter were killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash near La Grange, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 11:39 a.m., January 16, on Highway 77 near Rabbs Prairie Road.

Authorities said a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 was traveling southbound when it crossed the centerline and crashed into a northbound 2020 Ford Expedition.

The Expedition went into the ditch on the eastbound side and caught fire. Debra Lynn “Debbie” Townsend, 63, and her daughter, Tana Marie Hajovsky, 30, both of Louise, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The GMC went into the northbound lane and struck a guardrail. The driver, a 67-year-old Iola man, had to be extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to Austin in critical condition.

Flying debris struck a 2020 Ford Fusion. The driver and passenger were uninjured in the crash. The Fusion became disabled and had to be towed from the scene.

Alcohol was an unlikely factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
