Deputy Adrian Ruiz Struck by Vehicle on Hwy 377 in Edwards County

Deputy Adrian Ruiz Injured in Edwards County Crash on Highway 377 near Rural Route 674

Edwards County, Texas (September 8, 2019) – A Sheriff’s Deputy was struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop Wednesday evening in Edwards County, according to the authorities.

The accident occurred around 6:50 p.m. September 4, on Highway 377 South, near Rural Route 674.

Authorities said Deputy Adrian Ruiz, of Uvalde, was conducting a traffic stop involving a black truck when an oncoming red truck hit the deputy’s parked patrol car.

The impact caused the patrol car to hit the black truck and Ruiz.

The driver of the red truck, Carlos Antonio Alanis, had fallen asleep at the wheel, before the crash.

Ruiz was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center with a fractured femur and a broken elbow.

Alanis was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation is underway.
