Deputy Alec Eichler Injured in Hemphill Three-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 184

Hemphill, Texas (October 15, 2022) – A deputy was injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Hemphill, according to a local news source.

The crash happened around 7:43 p.m., October 13, on State Highway 184, at the Starr Funeral Home.

According to the report, a Sabine County Patrol Unit was traveling northbound on the highway with its emergency lights activated. A 2021 Ford SUV began backing out onto the roadway and was struck by the patrol unit. The impact pushed the SUV into a 2016 Volkswagen passenger car, which was parked on the side of the road.

The driver of the patrol unit, Deputy Alec Eichler of Hemphill, was taken to Sabine Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The SUV driver, 67-year-old Gerald Wood of Nacogdoches, was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
