27-Year-Old Derrick Asafu-Adjaye Killed in Arlington Fire Truck Crash on Interstate 20

Arlington, Texas (May 25, 2020) – One person was killed Saturday morning in a traffic accident involving an Arlington Fire Department truck in Arlington, police said.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:45 a.m. May 23, in the 600 block of eastbound Interstate 20.

Police said officers and the fire department were responding to a crash involving an overturned vehicle on the freeway. One of the fire engines had its emergency lights on and was in the left lane and inside the shoulder of the freeway when a sedan failed to move over and rear-ended the fire engine.

The driver of the sedan, 27-year-old Derrick Asafu-Adjaye of Grand Prairie, was taken to Medical City Arlington, where he later died. 

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
