Diego Catu Killed in Asherton Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 83

Asherton, Texas (October 23, 2019) – A man was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash near Asherton, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash occurred on Sunday, October 20, on U.S. Highway 83.

According to a preliminary investigation, Diego Catu, 22 of Roma, was driving a 2013 GMC Sierra southbound when he failed to control his speed. He then rear-ended a tanker trailer which was trying to make a turn.

Cantu was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the Sierra was taken to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition.

The tanker driver was treated and released at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
