Donavan Fricks Killed in Gaines County Two-Vehicle Crash on US Highway 62/180

Gaines County, Texas (May 29, 2021) – Two people were killed in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon in Gaines County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on May 27, on US Highway 62/180, 10 miles west of Seminole.

DPS said Cynthia Y. DeLao, 46 of Hobbs, was driving a Jeep westbound on the highway when she attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and crashed head-on into a car driven by Donavan K. Fricks, 34, of Seminole.

DeLao and Fricks were pronounced dead at the scene.

DeLao’s passengers, Antonio M. Espinoza, 44, of Hobbs, a 4-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl, were taken to Seminole Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
