Driver Killed in DUI Crash at South Collins Street and East Arbrook Boulevard in Arlington

22-Year-Old Driver Killed in Arlington Crash at South Collins Street and East Arbrook Boulevard; Bryan Penafiel Arrested

Arlington, Texas (June 27, 2022) – A driver was killed in an alleged DUI crash Sunday morning in Arlington, according to the Police Department.

The two-car wreck happened at about 9:50 a.m. Sunday, June 26 at the intersection of South Collins Street and East Arbrook Boulevard.

Witnesses told the police that Bryan Lizarzaburo Penafiel, 23, was driving his vehicle eastbound on Arbrook Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and slammed into a Ford Focus that was traveling northbound on Collins Street.

The driver of the Ford, a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

According to the police, Penafiel sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was later arrested and booked into Arlington jail on one count of intoxication manslaughter.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
