Elton Slater Killed in Port Arthur Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 73

Port Arthur, Texas (February 16, 2022) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Tuesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Port Arthur, according to the police.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:00 p.m., on February 15, in the 4000 block of Highway 73.

Police said a Honda car was traveling westbound on the highway when it was rear-ended by a Ford car. The impact caused the Honda to rear-end a Ford Mustang.

The Honda driver, Elton Slater, was pronounced dead at the scene. He worked at the city’s service center on H.O. Mills Boulevard and was responsible for maintenance of the building, servicing small equipment such as generators, lawnmowers, and weed eaters, and keeping the compound clean.

The driver of the Ford car was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Mustang driver was not seriously injured in the crash.

The Criminal Investigations Division and the Accident Reconstruction Team are conducting the investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
