Ervin Newman Killed in Abilene Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 20 near U.S. Highway 277 On-Ramp
Abilene, Texas (March 31, 2019) – A man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Abilene, police said.
The fatal crash occurred at about 7:12 a.m. March 29, on Interstate 20 near the U.S. Highway 277 entrance.
Police said Ervin Newman, 55, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck when he rear-ended a parked big rig on the westbound lane of I-20.
The big rig driver had pulled onto the shoulder to help the driver of another big rig which had flipped while attempting to merge onto I-20 from 277.
Newman was taken to an Abilene hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the overturned truck was ticketed for failure to alter course with safety.
The crash remains under investigation.
