Felipe Chavez-Salinas Killed in Austin Three-Vehicle Crash on N. Lamar

Austin, Texas (March 11, 2021) – The driver who was killed last month in a three-vehicle crash in Central Austin has been identified as 34-year-old Felipe Chavez-Salinas, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 2:57 a.m., February 7, in the 3000 block of N. Lamar.

Police said Chavez-Salinas was driving a red 2020 Chevrolet Corvette at a high rate of speed when he sideswiped a silver 2018 Ford Explorer that was being used as a rideshare vehicle.

The Corvette then crashed into two telephone poles and a parked silver 2021 Toyota Tundra before coming to a stop near W. 29th and Shoal Crest Avenue.

Chavez-Salinas was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, where he later died.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-4278.
