Fernando Martinez Ochoa Killed in Weslaco Two-Vehicle Crash on US 77

Weslaco, Texas (August 27, 2019) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Weslaco, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:00 p.m. August 26, on US 77.

DPS said Fernando Martinez Ochoa, 57, of Edinburg, was driving a 2007 Ford F150 southbound on the highway when he crossed over the middle turn lane and into the left lane of the northbound lanes.

A 2020 Freightliner semi-trailer was heading northbound in the left lane of the highway.

The Freightliner driver attempted to take an evasive action, but the Ford hit the rear axles of the truck tractor.

 Ochoa was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Freightliner driver was uninjured in the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
