Four Hurt in Rear-End Crash on Highway 96 near Kirbyville

4 Injured in Jasper County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 96 

Kirbyville, Texas (December 20, 2019) – Four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Jasper County, south of Kirbyville, according to the DPS.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., December 19, on Highway 96.

DPS said a commercial motor vehicle (chip truck) was stopped in the outside traffic lane of US 96 South for a stopped school bus, which was unloading students when it was rear-ended by a 2007 GMC dually pickup truck.

The GMC driver, a 36-year-old Brookeland man, had to be extricated and was airlifted to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

Two passengers in the GMC, a 37-year-old woman, and a 25-year-old man were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the chip truck, a 54-year-old Burkeville man, was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
