Gabriel Rodriguez Injured in Fatal Crash at East Loop 430 and Highway 84 in Littlefield

5-Year-Old Gabriel Rodriguez Hospitalized after Littlefield Crash at East Loop 430 and U.S. Highway 84

Littlefield, Texas (July 21, 2022) – 5-year-old Gabriel Zeke Rodriguez was injured after being involved in a deadly crash Wednesday morning near Littlefield, according to a report by the Littlefield Police Department.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of East Loop 430 and U.S. Highway 84 on July 20.

As per the police report, a silver 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of East Loop 430 and the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 84 and was facing southbound.

The Jeep failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and pulled out in front of a loaded 2014 Peterbilt Bobtail truck, driven by Danny Lee Clawson, 67, of Lubbock. The truck ultimately hit the Jeep on the driver’s side.

Carmen Rodriguez, 30, of Abilene, and the right front passenger of the car, Rosalin Rodriguez, 13, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Gabriel Zeke Rodriguez, who was sitting on an approved safety seat in the left back seat of the car, sustained a broken leg and head injuries. He was transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, where he underwent surgery.

The two-month-old infant girl was sitting in an approved safety device in the right rear seat of the car and did not suffer any injuries.

Clawson sustained minor injuries to his arm but declined medical treatment at the scene.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
