Gary Garza Killed and Five Injured in Elmendorf Rail Tanker Explosion at Alamo Junction Rail Park
Elmendorf, Texas (May 11, 2019) – A worker was killed, and five others were injured Friday afternoon in a rail car tanker explosion near Elmendorf, according to the authorities.
The fatal explosion happened just before 1:00 p.m., May 10, at the Alamo Junction Rail Park.
Authorities said a crew at CRU Railcar Services was cleaning the residual crude oil from the tanker when it caught fire and exploded.
Gary Garza, 39, who was inside the tanker, was killed in the explosion.
Another man was taken to the hospital with severe burns and a cable impaled into his side.
Four other workers were taken to SAMMC with burns.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration are conducting the investigation.
