George Kenneth Ulibarri Killed in Amarillo Two-Vehicle Crash at Southwest 46th and Parker Street

Amarillo, Texas (May 27, 2020) – A man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Amarillo, according to police.

The fatal crash took place around 3:40 p.m., May 26, at the intersection of Southwest 46th and Parker Street.

Police said a 29-year-old man was driving a black 2004 Toyota Matrix around 70 mph when he ran a red light on Parker Street and crashed into a tan 2007 Mercury MKX driven by 58-year-old George Kenneth Ulibarri of Amarillo.

The impact caused the Toyota to hit a utility pole and flip onto its side while the Mercury hit a residence on South Parker Street.

Ulibarri was killed in the crash.

The Toyota driver fled the scene. DPS Criminal Investigation Agents later found him hiding nearby in a shed, and he was arrested. The Agents had been looking for him prior to the crash, as he was wanted on a felony assault warrant.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is facing charges for his felony warrant, murder and an accident causing death.

The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating the crash.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of George Kenneth Ulibarri.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
