Iliana Velez Killed in San Marcos Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 35; Jordan Sannicola Arrested

San Marcos, Texas (January 5, 2022) – A man has been arrested in connection to the hit-and-run crash that left a teenager dead on January 3 in San Marcos, according to the police.

Jordan Michael Sannicola, 28, of Hondo, was arrested on Saturday, January 29.

The fatal crash happened around 2:15 a.m., on northbound Interstate 35 near Wonder World Drive.

Police said a silver Mazda and a large box truck collided where the ramp meets the main lanes of Interstate 35.

The impact caused the Mazda to flip over.

The Mazda driver, Iliana Velez, 18, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The box truck driver, Sannicola, fled the scene after the crash. He was arrested on Saturday and will be charged with an accident involving death, a second-degree felony.

An investigation is underway.
