Ivan Joseph Duran Arrested in Fatal San Antonio Two-Vehicle Crash on Prue Road

San Antonio, Texas (November 19, 2020) – A teenager has been arrested in connection with a two-vehicle crash that left a teenage girl dead early Sunday morning in San Antonio, according to police.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m., November 15, in the 7900 block of Prue Road near Bandera Road.

Police said a Ford Mustang was traveling westbound while a Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and pulled up alongside the Mustang.

As the cars crested a small hill, the Challenger driver saw a vehicle coming eastbound in his direction, and he sped up and tried to cut back into the westbound lane to avoid a head-on collision.

The Challenger then struck the Mustang. The impact caused the Mustang to hit a light pole and rollover.

Dominique Orta, 18, who was a back seat passenger in the Mustang, was ejected, and the Mustang came to rest on top of her. She was taken to University Hospital, where she later died.

One of the two men in the Dodge was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Ivan Joseph Duran, 18, was arrested and has been charged with Intoxication Assault. He was released on a $45,000 bond.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dominique Orta.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
