Weslaco, Texas (May 2, 2022) – A teenager was killed Saturday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Weslaco, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 7:31 p.m., April 30, at the intersection of FM 1015 and 18th Street.

She evaded Progreso PD while officers attempted to perform a traffic stop and continued heading northbound on FM 1015 at a high rate of speed toward Weslaco. She then crashed into a Kia Optima driven by Jaime Elias Garcia, 18.

The Kia entered the intersection and was struck by a Honda Pilot, which had the right-of-way and was traveling westbound on 18th street.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ford Explorer driver who was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries was detained. Criminal charges against her are forthcoming.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
