James Cox Killed, Luis Zamorano Injured in Head-On Crash on U.S. 62/180 in Hudspeth County

James Earl Cox Killed and Luis Roberto Zamorano Injured in Hudspeth County Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 62/180

Hudspeth County, Texas (November 29, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured Wednesday evening in a head-on collision in Hudspeth County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 5:00 p.m., November 23, on U.S. 62/180 near milepost 52 near the Border Patrol checkpoint.

DPS said Luis Roberto Zamorano, 24, of El Paso, was driving westbound on a single-lane portion of the highway when he attempted to pass in a no-passing zone and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by James Earl Cox, 61, of El Paso.

Cox was pronounced at the scene.

Zamorano sustained injuries in the crash. His condition was not disclosed.

The Texas DPS is investigating the crash.
