Javier Elijah Garcia Killed in 5-Car Crash on Rundberg Lane at Collinfield Drive in North Austin

Javier Elijah Garcia ID’d as Teen Killed in North Austin Five-Vehicle Crash at Rundberg Lane and Collinfield Drive

Austin, Texas (February 1, 2020) – The teenager who was killed Thursday morning in a five-vehicle crash in North Austin has been identified as 18-year-old Javier Elijah Garcia, according to the police.

The crash happened at about 10:00 a.m. January 30, at the intersection of Rundberg Lane and Collinfield Drive, west of North Lamar Boulevard.

Police said a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Rundberg while a 1999 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound, preparing to turn eastbound. A 2015 Buick LaCrosse was traveling northbound while a 2004 Ford Expedition was stopped facing westbound at the intersection. A 2018 Ford Mustang was pulling up behind the Expedition.

The Silverado, the Camry, and the LaCrosse entered the intersection at the same time. The Silverado then crashed into the driver’s side of the LaCrosse and into the front of the Camry. The Lacrosse then hit the Mustang. The crash debris damaged the Expedition.

The Lacrosse driver, Garcia, was taken to Dell-Seton Medical Center, where he later died.

Two occupants of the Silverado and two of the occupants of the Camry were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said at the time of the crash, the signal lights at the intersection were inoperable due to a power outage in the area.
