Javier Laso ID’d as Victim In Fatal 18-Wheeler Crash on U.S. 77 in Refugio County

Refugio County, Texas (April 27, 2023) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the man who died following a collision between a train and an 18-Wheeler on Wednesday afternoon in Refugio County as Javier Laso, 55, of Alice.

The fatal crash happened at around 1:22 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, on U.S. 77.

DPS said Laso was driving a Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer southbound on U.S. 77 when he attempted to make a right turn onto a private drive and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.

The train ultimately struck the 18-wheeler. Due to the impact, the 18-wheeler turned completely around and detached from the cab before flipping.

Laso was ejected from the semi-truck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by DPS.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
