Jesus G. Lopez Killed in San Angelo Pedestrian Accident on US Highway 67; Esgar Navarro Arrested

San Angelo, Texas (June 5, 2020) – A 23-year-old man has been arrested following a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that left a man dead early Sunday morning, two miles southwest of San Angelo, according to the deputies.

Esgar Navarro was arrested on Wednesday, June 3.

The deadly accident took place around 2:35 a.m. May 31, on US Highway 67.

DPS said Jesus G. Lopez, 36, of Las Cruces, N.M., was walking northbound in the southbound lane of the highway when he was struck by a vehicle.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver fled the scene after the accident.

On Wednesday around 11:45 a.m., Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Investigators located a potential suspect vehicle in Mertzon, Texas. The 2007 Chevrolet pickup was discovered to have damage consistent with the accident. Efforts to conceal the damage had been made on the vehicle. 

The hit-and-run driver, Navarro, was arrested and taken into the Tom Green County Jail on charges of Accident Involving Death – 2nd Degree Felony.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
