Jesus Zamudio Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash on Highway 2 in Mission, July 27

McAllen Man Jesus Zamudio Killed in Mission Pedestrian Crash on Highway 2

Mission, Texas (August 2, 2019) – A man from McAllen was killed in a hit-and-run accident that occurred over the weekend in Mission, according to the authorities.

The incident happened early morning on Saturday, July 27, in the 900 block of West Interstate 2.

Authorities said Jesus Zamudio, 22, of McAllen was working on his blue KIA Sportage at the side of the road when he was hit by a vehicle whose driver failed to stop and render aid.

Zamudio’s body was located in the grass near the shoulder of the road by the officers who responded to the crash.

On Monday, July 29,  at about 1 a.m., Mauro Esparza III turned himself into the Mission Police Department and reported that he was the driver of the vehicle that hit the victim. He also reported that he had been drinking in McAllen earlier that that day along with his passenger, Ruby Esparza, who also went to the police station.

Mauro was charged with accident causing death while Ruby was charged with failure to report a felony.

The crash is under investigation.
