Jimmy Sipes Killed in Lamesa Two-Vehicle Crash on CR 24 and SH 349

Lamesa, Texas (May 29, 2021) – Four people were killed, and another was injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash, near Lamesa, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 8:50 a.m., May 27, at the intersection of County Road 24 and State Highway 349.

DPS said a 2007 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound on CR 24 when the driver failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a 2000 Kenworth truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer that was traveling northbound on SH 349.

The driver of the Sierra, Jonathan R. Lawhorn, 30, of Many, Louisiana, and his passengers, Jimmy L. Sipes, 42, of Newton, Colt A. Atkins, 33, of Graham, and Taylor A. Bryce, 25, of Center, were pronounced dead at the scene.

All the victims were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The semi-truck driver, Christian Luna, 33, of Odessa, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock with non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
