Police Identified Joanna Cardenas as Woman Who Died After Being Struck by Vehicle Friday Night on Boca Chica Boulevard in Brownsville

Brownsville, Texas (May 24, 2022) – The woman who died after being struck by a vehicle Friday night in Brownsville has been identified as Joanna Cardenas, 41.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at around 9:30 p.m. on May 20 in the 2200 block of Boca Chica Boulevard.

According to the Brownsville Police Department, Cardenas, a resident of Brownsville, was walking southbound across Boca Chica Boulevard when she was hit by a 2000 model white Chevrolet or GMC sports utility vehicle that was heading westbound.

Cardenas was declared dead at the scene.

The involved driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.

Brownsville police are looking for a Chevy or GMC sports utility vehicle, which may have damage to the front end.

The accident remains under investigation.
