John Anthony Scott Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 14 in Smith County

John Anthony Scott Killed in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 14 near County Road 38

Smith County, Texas (July 31, 2020) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Smith County, two miles north of Tyler, according to troopers.

The fatal crash happened at about 11:37 a.m., July 30, on FM 14 near County Road 38.

DPS said a 2014 Lincoln MKZ was traveling northbound on the highway while a 2009 Freightliner oversized load truck tractor semi-trailer was heading southbound.

For an unknown reason, the Lincoln crossed over the center, no passing zone line, and crashed into the semi-trailer.

The Lincoln driver, John Anthony Scott, 37, of Tyler, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver, Wade James Jackson, 47, of Scotland, was treated and released at the scene. His passenger, Mitchell Ryan Steinberger, 28, of Scotland, was also treated and released at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
