John Carpenter Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Katy Freeway in Houston

John Carpenter ID’d as Man Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on Katy Freeway near Highway 99

Houston, Texas (July 22, 2022) – Authorities have identified the man who died last week on Monday morning following a hit-and-run accident in Houston as John Carpenter.

The deadly crash happened around 3:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, in the 23500 block of the Katy Freeway near Highway 99.

Authorities said a woman was driving on the freeway when her car broke down. The woman parked his car in the emergency lane and called a family member, now identified as Carpenter, to help her.

Carpenter arrived at the location and parked his car in the emergency lane. After he was done, he walked back to get inside his vehicle and was struck by a black SUV, whose driver fled the scene.

Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (713) 521-4600. The Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest of the hit-and-run driver.
