John Gavin Mendoza Killed, Two Injured in San Antonio Two-Vehicle Crash on Commercial Avenue

San Antonio, Texas (February 10, 2021) – A man was killed and two others were injured in a racing-related crash on Monday in San Antonio’s South Side, according to police.

The fatal crash happened on February 8, in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue near Sharmain Place and Sunglo Drive.

Police said an older-model GMC pickup truck was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when the driver hit a patch of water on the road, lost control and collided with a southbound GMC Sierra.

Video surveillance showed the older-model GMC truck was apparently racing with a red sedan before the crash.

John Gavin Mendoza, 23, who was a passenger in the older-model GMC was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, an 18-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The other truck driver, a man in his 50s, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
