John Edward Grube Killed in Odessa Crash on Murphy Street at Business 20

Odessa, Texas (April 21, 2023) – An elderly man was killed Wednesday morning in a crash in Odessa, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on April 19, at the intersection of Murphy Street and Business 20.

DPS said John Edward Grube, 86, was driving a Honda Odyssey eastbound on Murphy Street when he failed to yield the right-of-way and turned left onto Highway 80 in front of a Ford F-250 with a trailer.

The two vehicles collided, and the Ford was struck by a train. The Ford driver, a 28-year-old Corpus Christi man, had exited the vehicle before it was struck by the train. He was taken to Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.

Grube was pronounced dead at the scene. His 90-year-old passenger, a woman from Frisco, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
