John Ortiz, Rogelio Espinoza Killed in Motorcycle Crash on US 84 in Coleman County

John Ortiz and Rogelio Espinoza Killed in Coleman County Motorcycle Crash on US Highway 84

Coleman County, Texas (September 28, 2022) – Two motorcyclists were killed Saturday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Coleman County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly crash happened just before 4:30 p.m., September 24, on US Highway 84, about two miles south of Coleman.

DPS said a 72-year-old Coleman woman was driving a 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup truck northbound on the highway when she steered left across the center stripe and crashed head-on into two southbound motorcycles, a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The rider of the 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle, John Ortiz, 40, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rider of the 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle, 42-year-old Rogelio Espinoza of San Antonio, was also killed in the crash.

The pickup truck driver was taken to Hendrick Medical Center with incapacitating injuries but was listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
