Jose de Jesus L. Izaguirre Killed in Gregg County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 31

Gregg County, Texas (June 7, 2022) – A man was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Gregg County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 a.m., on State Highway 31, approximately 0.5 miles northeast of Kilgore.

DPS said a 2020 Volvo truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer was stopped at a yield sign on SH-31, facing northeast, to turn onto the entrance ramp of IH-20. It failed to yield the right-of-way to a southwest 1999 Toyota Solara, and the Solara hit the trailer.

The Solara went partially under the trailer.

The Solara driver, Jose de Jesus L. Izaguirre, 21, of Longview, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Volvo driver, Homer J. Cotton III, 41, of Henderson, and his passenger, Tiffany H. Lauderdale, 40, of Lufkin, sustained no serious injuries in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
