22-Year-Old Junin Ko Killed in Austin Plane Accident on Runway 17R at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Austin, Texas (May 12, 2020) – The man who was struck and killed by a plane Thursday night, an Austin airport runway, has been identified as 22-year-old Junin Ko, according to the police.

The accident happened just after 8:12 p.m., May 7, on Runway 17R at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Authorities said Ko was on the runway when he was hit by a Southwest Airlines Flight 1392, a Boeing 737, which was arriving from Dallas. The pilot reported seeing a person on the runway shortly after the plane touched down, and he maneuvered the plane to avoid the man.

The driver of an airport operations vehicle later found Ko’s body on the runway. 

Airport officials said Ko was not a badged employee for either the airport or city.

The 53 passengers and five crew members on board the plane were uninjured.

No further details regarding the accident were provided.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
